Three Point Land
ESPN.com recently made a list of the All-Time Top 25 Three Point Shooters in College Basketball history. Naturally two Wildcats made the list. But in a event, that can only be considered the most blasphemous of all time, neither ‘Cat was given top honors. But either way Arizona was tied with UCLA and Tennessee for most players on the list, and both of ours were top ten. Here is the analysis…
2. Steve Kerr, Arizona, 1983-88: 114-199 (.573)
Kerr made the 3-point line look like a layup, and he probably hit a higher percentage of his 3s than he did his layups. Kerr’s 3-point percentage is the kind of shooting percentage reserved for big guys who don’t shoot outside the paint. He was a great shooter, and he turned that singular skill into a stellar career. Kerr is a great lesson: Don’t get caught up in what a player cannot do at the expense of what he does so well.
7. Salim Stoudamire, Arizona, 2001-05: 342-747 (.458)
Stoudamire wasn’t the prettiest of jump shooters, but he was very efficient and unafraid to take the big ones.
We have always held the title of Point Guard U, but the title of “I Will Drill It In From 3-Point Land” U, may not be far behind. Steve Kerr probably would have landed the top slot if it was not for the fact that the 3-Point Line was not installed until his Senior Year! And if Kerr is not #1, Salim definitely is. The guy defined clutch, bombed them from the Alltel sign, and shot 0.504% from deep his senior year. Still big honor for both ‘Cats to make top ten ever.
