    Golden Touch

We’re only three days into camp, and true freshman cornerback Robert Golden has already done well to turn the heads of coaches and beat writers. John Moredich writes in today’s Tucson Citizen:

Golden was said to be ahead of Cason at comparable stages through their high school careers. That seems to remain the case.

“Robert may be further along. I don’t know what his top end is as a player,” UA coach Mike Stoops said. “Robert is more physically stronger and a little bigger.

“Antoine was a little longer but they have a lot of similar characteristics. They have the willingness to compete and prepare and learn every time they step on the field. They are very focused on technique and very coachable. That is another sign of great players.”

Even the Arizona Daily Star’s Greg Hansen took part in the drool-fest:

It took me back to August 1991 when freshman lineman Tedy Bruschi went through his first contact practice at Camp Cochise.

“He was as good as anybody we had on the field today,” former UA coach Dick Tomey said then. “On film last year, he played harder than anybody we saw. You just wondered if he could do that when he got to this level — and he can.”

Bruschi and Cason are about as hallowed names as this football program can claim. But not to be out done in the realm of hyperbole, RauRaur.com believes that Robert Golden has Tedy Bruschi’s motor, Antoine Cason’s coverage skills and off-field charm, Gilbert Arenas’ work ethic, Andre Iguodala’s athleticism, Sean Elliott’s ability to “put a program on the map,” Steve Kerr’s three point range, Miles Simon’s sense of “the moment,” Greg Kinnear’s acting skills, and Lute Olson’s sage wisdom (along with his hair).
