Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall torched the San Diego Chargers secondary and people’s fantasy teams all day yesterday, but (as usual) Antoine Cason was not the man to blame. Last week when the Chargers trailed late in the 4th, he caused a fumble, which led to the Chargers taking a late lead, though they still blew it. And this week Cason did it again. With his team trailing by one and their backs to the wall, Antoine picked off Cutler in the end zone and returned it out to the 10 (who cares if he fumbled, his teammates recovered it). Check it out in the highlights above. Can someone say rookie of the year?

We could have used his clutch heroics on Saturday… UGH!

P.S. Keep your head up ‘Cat fans. Not all is wrong with the world.

I’m too lazy to look up who the San Diego Chargers’ GM is, but I can only guess he thinks he is the smartest man alive. Everyone questioned his first round choice of Antoine Cason (who many believed to be second round talent), and now Antoine is making his front office look phenomenal by making plays like this one above. You can already hear the discussions of Cason being the surprise of the draft. But, we are confused. Did these people never watch a college football game? Like, really? If the San Diego Chargers’ GM gets a raise for picking Cason, RauRaur should get paid for not touching hot plates when Wilma tells us not to. Anyways, keep making us proud Antoine.

If I have to watch one more women’s synchronized dive, I may just lose it (though I was not complaining when Stephanie Rice was in the pool). In two weeks we will be tailgating, debating, gambling, winning (fingers-crossed!), and enjoying life.

And since we have nothing better to do in the meantime, we are going to do a countdown to kickoff by honoring former Wildcat greats of that number. Yeah, we should have started this 99 days ago, but we didn’t. Deal with it…

So here you go, number 14: Tedy Bruschi.

Okay it is a rough start to our countdown because we could not think of any former great Wildcats holding the number 14. But check this out, Bruschi was #68, and 6 + 8 = 14! So that is what we are going to go with.

Tedy Bruschi was the general of the Desert Swarm during his years at Arizona in the early ’90s. Playing at defensive end, he was a force to be reckoned with and in his senior year he tied the NCAA sack record of 52 (which still stands today). In his senior year, he was also award the Morris Trophy for most outstanding Pac-10 defensive lineman. Bruschi was then drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots, where he was moved to linebacker. And after 12 years with the Pats, Tedy has 3 Super Bowl rings, 1 Pro Bowl appearance, and 1 NFL Comeback Player of the Year (after suffering a stroke and returning to dominate). Bruschi gave Arizona a dominating Fiesta Bowl win, and continues on the great name of the University to this day.

Today we honor 6+8… 14 days until Arizona kicks off vs. Idaho! Words can’t express the excitement.

Honorable Mention for #14:

#89 Ricky Hunley. (Math: The square root of (89+107)=14!) If Bruschi wasn’t history’s top defensive Wildcat, linebacker Ricky Hunley could’ve been. In his time with the ‘Cats, Hunley was a two-time All-American and was the 7th pick of the 1984 draft. He is also is the schools career tackle leader with 566.

Really wish we started this 89 days ago…

When Mustafa Shakur arrived to Tucson in 2004, there was so much talk about how the Messiah has arrived. After four sub par years, and a horrible meltdown against Illinois in 2005, Arizona has never been the same. And things are only getting worse. Brandon Jennings (The Real Messiah) is struggling with his SAT’s, Emmanuel Negedu will not be attending next year after asking out of his LOI, Nic Wise is back home right now and very well could be transferring, Chase looks to be going pro, Jerryd is already gone, and we have an entire new coaching staff. To top it all off, rumor has it, Lute has a new girlfriend and might not be giving his all on the recruiting trail. In a year that was supposed to be the Renaissance of the Wildcats, we might (at the most) be left with 8 scholarship players and a starting five of Jennings, Hill, Horne, Withey, and Lavender? That is of course saying Jennings passes and Withey doesn’t follow Negedu. Then again we could get Wise back and still be competitive in the Pac-10 and make a run in the post season. Too optimistic? Ya probably. We have always said, In Lute We Trust, but now it seems the Silver Haired Legend is not making the right decisions. There are problems, to say the least, in McKale. It could be a curse, but more likely it is just a lack of effort and dedication. Let’s just hope Jennings can recruit, coach, as well as carry the team on his back next season.
