Beating the Spread (But Not That One)
The last time Arizona won as a double-digit favorite was in 2003. Note that I said “won,” not “covered.” That game, a 42-7 blowout against UTEP, also marked John Mackovic’s last victory as the Wildcat’s head coach — he was fired four consecutive losses later. With that in mind, maybe beating hapless Idaho 70-0 (easily [...]

RauRaur’s Required Reading (8/27)
So much has happened lately, and unfortunately not all has been good. Gronk is sick… and we are not talking the good kind.
In better news Crier is back! I love 83 yard punts to the one yard line!
The annual Herbies have been awarded by Kirk Herbstreit of ESPN and it looks a lot like the [...]

Lightning ‘Cat
With the Wildcats not due to play for 12 more days, we at RauRaur decided to take a scouting trip this weekend to Beijing, China. With Stoops and staff busy preparing this year’s team, we took it on ourselves to go recruit the next big thing. After intensely searching everything from Badminton to Judo, we [...]

In Stoops We Trust?
About a month ago, Spencer Hall (writer for both Every Day Should be Saturday and Sporting News) named Mike Stoops atop his list of “coaches most likely to have a Mike Gundy-like explosion.” Recalling the Oklahoma State coach’s classic “I’m a man, I’m 40” meltdown, Hall sees a “perfect storm” (regretful cliche admittedly his own) [...]

RauRaur’s Required Reading (8/13)
Bret Brielmaier will be coaching as a graduate assistant. Think we can transplant his brain into Fendi’s Abrams tank of a body?
Stoops looks to “change up the everyday routine” by moving practice to Fort Huachuca for the rest of the week
We talkin’ ’bout practice
Mike Bibby, Hassan Adams, Channing Frye, Joseph Blair, Sean Rooks and Jerryd [...]

RauRaur’s Required Reading (8/06)
ESPN.com posted their conference Power Rankings for the upcoming football season. The ‘Cats were picked 5th best team in the Pac.
Our week one opponent, Idaho, holds the #1 spot in the Bottom Ten. Be nice, we were on that list not too long ago.
Pac-10 coaches were also ranked by ESPN.com, Stoops did not fare well [...]

Virtual ‘Cats
(Editor’s Note: Today, Greg Hansen took readers through a predicted 2008 football season from aboard an imaginary “Mike Stoops Bandwagon.” We at RauRaur have employed an equally ridiculous concept for this “crystal ball” article… a preview derived by a series of ones and zeros that collectively are known as EA Sports’ NCAA Football 2009. The [...]

Rivalry
In the past few days, ESPN.com has been discussing the most hated teams and the greatest rivalries in college football. The rankings for the Pac-10 rivalries, done by Ted Miller, went like this:
5. Washington vs. Wazzou
4. California vs. Stanford
3. Oregon vs. Washington
2. Arizona vs. Arizona State
1. UCLA vs. USC (!?!?)
We must give credit to Ted [...]

Matching Up
Arizona was ranked 7th in the Pac-10 by the media, just ridiculous. Especially when you look at where our individual players match up against others in the Pac-10. Ted Miller of ESPN.com has been compiling rankings of positional players in the conference and Arizona is up there in each category.
Quarterbacks - #2 Willie Tuitama (Though, [...]

Smile
Well the Media Day that we were not invited to is probably coming to a close, so here are some things of note/reasons to smile. Special thanks to ESPN.com and Rivals.com for providing us Media Coverage, since they were lucky enough to attend today’s event.
Stoops: “I think we have better players than people think.”
Stoops on [...]
